For every Mastering assignment, you control three dates that affect when students can see and work on an assignment and when it is due:
Available From date is when students first see the assignment on their Mastering Assignments list or Calendar. Unless you change it, this date is set to be one week before the assignment is due.
If you want students to know when future assignments are due without making those assignments available for students to work on them yet, list the assignments on a traditional syllabus.
Available Until is the date beyond which students can no longer see the assignment. Unless you change it (which is not recommended), this date coincides with the course end date. More
To read about considerations for selecting these dates, see Make an assignment available to students.
An Adaptive Follow-Up assignment appears on student calendars when the Parent assignment becomes available, but students can't access the Follow-Up until one of the following is true:
An Adaptive Follow-Up is always available until the course end date, unless you change the course end date. To synchronize the Follow-Up availability with the course end again
Dynamic Study Modules, if provided for your textbook, are always available to students. As soon as you set a due date for an assigned module, the assignment becomes visible on students' Course Home calendar and Assignments page. Scores are recorded only until the Due Date/Time passes, but the module remains available until the course end date.
Both of the following options are available:
Each view of the course's assignments provides different features with specific advantages.

Sort by #, Title, Category, and Due Date/Time. With rows sorted by #, change the order by dragging an assignment to a new position. |
No sorting. On the Calendar View (not Course Home):
|
To assign dates |
Sort by #, optionally drag assignments to the preferred instructional sequence, click Edit, enter dates, and then click Save. For Adaptive Follow-Ups, you can change the days after Parent, which will be expressed as an actual date when the Parent assignment has dates. |
On the Calendar View (not Course Home): Display the month when an assignment should be due, drag an undated assignment to the due date in the calendar, and accept or edit the Due Time, From date (default = one week before the due date) and Until date (default = course end date). For Dynamic Study Modules, From and Until dates don't apply. If this is a Parent assignment (has an Adaptive Follow-Up added), you can also accept or edit the days after Parent to establish the due date for the Follow-Up. |
To change dates |
Click Edit, enter new dates/times, or days after Parent, and then click Save. |
Drag a regular or Parent assignment to a different due date. You can't drag an Adaptive Follow-Up independently, but you can click it to open its Overview page, and then click Edit Adaptive Follow-Up to change its days after Parent. The From date moves automatically to maintain the same number of days before the due date. The Until date also moves automatically or, if set at the course end date, remains on that date. For Dynamic Study Modules, From and Until dates don't apply. |
[Optional] Sort the assignments by clicking any column header that has blue text.
Click anywhere you see your move pointer (often a 4-pointed arrow or a hand), and drag the assignment to a new position in the list. Image
At the upper right, click Edit.
Click Instructor Tools > Assignments > Calendar View to display the Course Calendar with assignments listed to the left.
Note: You can use the calendar on the Course Home to change, but not set, assignment dates. The Course Home lists only assignments with dates.
Drag an undated assignment onto the calendar, to the date the assignment will be due.
An undated assignment displays dashes instead of a date. When you point to any listed assignment, your pointer changes to a move icon, often a 4-pointed arrow. View an image
Accept or edit the time the assignment is due on the selected date, and the From and Until dates and times for availability to students to work and review the assignment.
For Dynamic Study Modules, From and Until dates don't apply.
If that assignment is a Parent assignment (with an Adaptive Follow-Up assignment), you can accept or edit days after Parent value, and the Adaptive Follow-Up will be automatically positioned on the corresponding due date. Images
The default availability dates and times are:
On either the Course Home > Calendar or the Assignments > Calendar View, drag a regular or Parent assignment from one due date to a different due date. The Available From date moves automatically to maintain the same number of days before the due date. The Available Until date also moves automatically or, if set to the last day of the term, remains on that date. The due date for an Adaptive Follow-Up also moves automatically, according to the days after the Parent setting.
On the Assignments > Calendar View only, you can change an assignment date by dragging a dated assignment from the list to a different date, as follows:
Drag a dated regular or Parent assignment from the list to the calendar, onto the new date the assignment will be due.
For example, if you copy a course with assignment dates from the previous term, you might want to drag an assignment date from February to October. View an image
