Attach a file to an assignment

For composition and collaboration assignments, your instructor has the option of accepting file attachments. You can then attach up to three files to the assignment in the composing space.

The MyLab lets you know if you can attach files, and the acceptable file types, in the assignment details and in the composing space.

The file name must be alphanumeric. A limited number of special characters are allowed, such as _ (underscore) and spaces. To avoid using up your 50 MB of space, try to minimize the size of your attached files. For example, you can reduce the size of an image by saving it as a .gif file and, if possible, cropping it.

To attach files to a composition or collaboration assignment:

  1. Open the assignment in the composing space.
  2. Click the Attach File button.

The Attach File dialog box is displayed, and it lists the allowable file types under the File Name text box. The amount of file storage space remaining for your account is also displayed at the bottom of the dialog box.

  3. Click the Browse button and locate the file you want to upload.
  4. (Optional) Enter a File Display Name.

The composing space displays the file name and extension unless you enter a File Display Name. The display name is the name you and your instructor will see. If you do not enter a display name, the composing space displays the file name instead.

  5. Click the Upload and Attach button.

The composing space uploads the file, attaches it to your assignment, and closes the Attach File dialog box. The file name is displayed next to the Attach Files button, above the editor's icon bar.

  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 to upload and attach additional files. (You can attach up to three files.)

To detach an attached file:

  1. Click the attached file's Delete icon to the right of the file name.

The composing space detaches the file from the assignment and your account space.
