Use the grapher
You use the grapher to answer graphing questions when you do assignments and practice. The grapher gives you a grid where you plot your graphs and a palette of tools you can use to create different kinds of graphs.
When you first open a graphing question, you see the grapher in the answer box of the question. To enter your answer, click in the grapher to open a palette of drawing tools:
The Delete button in the tools palette removes a selected item. The Clear button removes everything in the grapher.
Click the X next to the drawing tools palette to hide it. Click the graph again to show the tools palette.
You can open a larger version of the grapher in a new window by clicking the enlarge button or the pop-out icon to the right of the grapher. (The size of the pop-out grapher adjusts to the space available on your device. If your browser window is small or you are working on a device like a tablet with a very small screen, the pop-out grapher may not be larger than the grapher in the question.)
In the pop-out grapher, the drawing tools palette appears on the right of the graph:
When you have finished plotting your graph, click Save to save your work and return to the question. Click Cancel or the X on the top right to return to the question without saving your work.
When you need to draw a graph to answer a question, you use a drawing tool from the palette. The palette contains only the tools you are likely to need to answer the question.
To use a drawing tool:
- Click on a drawing tool icon to use that tool.
For example, click the line tool icon to draw a line.
- Inside the graph grid, hold down the mouse button to draw the object and release when you're finished. If you are using a touch-screen device, use your finger or a stylus to draw objects.
If the object has more than one point, click and release the mouse button or tap for each point.
When you click an object in the graph to select it, the object turns orange. Coordinate points change from solid blue to a blue bulls-eye when selected. Click outside the object or point to un-select it.
When you select a tool, you see instructions for using the tool. For example:
See Format graph objects for details on working with drawing tools to plot a graph.
The drawing tools available in the grapher depend on the type of graph you need to draw. Click on a linked tool name to get more information on using the tool:
