SMS, Push to Production

An SMS module ID must be assigned to an eText for each integration scenario so as to set up the subscription management correctly for the eText. Business units obtain this module ID and provide it to the author to enter on this page before the eText is published. The module ID must be attached to the appropriate site ID.

To specify SMS information and publish the eText to the eText Viewer platform:

  1. From Authoring Home, select or search for an eText.
  2. From the Authoring menu, click Specify SMS information, push content to production servers and make live.
  3. Enter the SMS information for the eText in the SMS Module Id field to the right of the Site ID it is attached to (in the SMS Module ID column).
  4. Select the corresponding check box in the Is Live column for any rows with Module IDs.
  5. Click Save.

Specifying a Product ID and Custom Redirect URL to Purchase eText access:

The Product ID and URL columns allow for the purchase of an eText if an end user comes from a parent LMS platform without an eText subscription (for example, a student has a subscription to Mastering platform, but not the Campbell eText). The Product ID identifies the purchasable product. Specifying URL in the URL column re-directs the user to the page from where user can purchase the eText product. By default, if Product ID, URL and Type columns are left blank, users will not have the option of purchasing an eText.

To specify Product ID:

  1. Specify the Product ID in the Product ID column and row based on the integration scenario used.
  2. Select Product ID in the Type drop-down.
  3. Click Save.

Note: The purchasable option is not evident until the eText is published.

To specify a URL:

  1. Specify the URL of the custom re-direct page in the URL column based on the integration scenario used.
  2. Select Url in the Type drop-down.
  3. Click Save.

Note: The purchasable option is not evident until the eText is published.

To allow chapter download for the iPad app:

  1. Select the Allow Download box.
  2. If the eText does not have a limit on the number of chapters a user can dowload, select the No Limit box. If the number of chapters for download is limited to a specific number, enter that number in the Max Simultaneously Chapter Download field.
  3. Click Save.

Swapping an SMS Module ID from One Title to Another

The SMS module ID you specify for an eText is not permanently bound to that title even after you publish it. This feature allows you to change eTexts for a specific set of SMS credentials. For example, for a given site ID and module ID you can swap out eText A and use eText B by removing the module ID from the first eText and adding the module ID to the second book.

To remove a module ID from an eText:

  1. Do one of the following steps:
  1. Click Save.
  2. Publish the eText so that the changes made are applied to the currently published version of the eText.

Note: Step 3 is necessary because the Authoring Tool and the eText Viewer use different databases.

  1. If required, unpublish the eText so that its status is updated to unpublished.

To apply an existing module ID to a different eText:

  1. Make sure the module ID is no longer used by the eText to which it was originally assigned. The easiest way to accomplish this is to complete the steps in the previous procedure, To remove a module ID from an eText.
  2. Enter the module ID in the SMS Module ID field for the new eText you want to associate with this module ID.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Publish the eText so that the changes made are applied to the eText. This changes the status of the book to Live in Production.

Note: You cannot specify SMS information for Synapse integration (Integration scenario 7) as it uses its own authentication mechanism.
