Pearson
eText has several methods to navigate from one page to another when reading
your book.
You can add
notes and highlights to your eText page.
To create a Note or Highlight, simply touch and hold the iPad screen
until this menu appears on the page.
Choose the type of personalization that you want to create:
Personal or private notes are indicated with a yellow
pushpin. A green pushpin indicates
a shared note. Tap on a pushpin
icon to View, Edit, or Delete a note. To change the location of a note, simply tap and hold a
pushpin, then slide your finger to where you would like to place the note
icon.
Selecting New Highlight allows you to highlight areas you find important in
your book. Tap a highlighted area
to resize or delete it. Students have the option of changing the color of their
highlighter under Settings.
The pushpin
icon on the toolbar opens the Notes Manager. This tool allows you to search all of your Shared and Private notes in your title. The Notes Manager allows you to Edit a note or go to the page where the
note is located. You can also
search to find a specific note using the Search feature.
Users can
share notes with members of a Study Group using the iPadÕs Bluetooth
capabilities or if using the same Wi-Fi hotspot.
To create a Study Group, tap on the Pushpin icon on menu and
select Study Group. Enter a name for your study group.
The eText app will automatically detect any other eText
Study Groups in the nearby facility via the wireless BlueTooth or WiFi
connection. You can look for study groups to join by tapping the Pushpin icon in the menu bar, selecting Study
Group and then
tapping Join. You leave a study group by tapping Leave
Group.
Once youÕve created your Study Group, simply create a new note or access
an existing note. Tap the option to Share with Group. You may also ÒflickÓ a Note to your Study Group by pressing
the note and holding it until a smaller version appears. Use a rapid ÒflickingÓ motion to send
it to your group.
Tap the Pushpin icon in the menu bar, select Study Group and then tap Study Group Inbox. Select the note you want then tap Accept and it will be added to the
appropriate page in your textbook as a Private note. You may also tap the Accept All button to accept all the
notes in your in-basket at once.
Please
note - Your Study Groups do not
persist when you leave the eText app.
The Glossary
contains keywords and definitions.
Some glossaries may contain images, audio and video. Not all eText titles have Glossaries.
If you are
using Pearson eText offline, you can create, edit and save notes and highlights
to your eText pages. When you go
back online, any notes and highlights that you created when you were offline
will automatically synchronize with the online version of the text. In the case of conflicting
personalizations made on and offline, the eText app will save the most recently
edited version.
Note: Some eText titles may not use some or all of these features.
eText
supports several different ways to access audio passages. Different titles may
use one or methods to play the audio.
If a page
includes a long audio, an audio Play icon (a right facing arrow) will generally appear in upper
right part of page under the toolbar.
When the user taps the Play icon, an audio controller will appear and the audio
soundtrack will automatically play. You may Pause or Stop the audio by tapping on the icons
in the audio controller. You may also see multiple audio icons on the page that
indicate location of additional audio ÒflowsÓ (segments) on your page. Tapping on the icons will play that
audio passage.
Other eText
support a ÒmodalÓ audio player, which, when active, grays out the text until
the audio passage complete.
Some eText
support synchronized highlighting of text with the audio, words, phrases or
sentences will be highlighted so you can follow along with the audio. Tap the Play icon to restart the audio
flow. To stop the audio, tap on
the Stop
(square) icon on audio player.
For very
short audio passages such as vocabulary exercises, some titles simply highlight
a given work or phrase. Tapping
the highlighted text will play the passage without displaying the audio
controller.
Pearson
eText allows you to download chapters of a book for offline use when you are
not connected to the Internet.
Although an active internet connection is required to utilize the full
feature set of the app, you can read your books and create and view your
personalizations while offline and then sync them with your online version when
you reconnect.
To use a
book offline, you must first download chapters using the Download Manager on the toolbar within a book or the More
Info window on the
Bookshelf. You can select the
course you want as your Òactive courseÓ while offline by tapping Offline
Course. The Sync Personalizations button will update the notes and
highlights that are stored for offline use. Tap Sync Personalizations when you have made changes while
working online that you want updated for chapters you have already
downloaded.
Note: The Download option is not available for all titles.
When
working offline, your Notes, Highlights, and Bookmarks that you created while
online are viewable and editable.
You can also create and edit personalizations while working
offline. When you go back online,
your notes and highlights will automatically be synchronized. In the case of conflicting
personalizations made on and offline, the eText app will save the most recently
edited version.
Note: Offline access is not available for all titles.
The Settings feature has options for instructors
and students to configure their personal settings. Tap the Settings (gear) icon in the toolbar to access these
functions.
