Respond to questions
With Live Response, you answer questions sent by your instructor. Your instructor monitors responses to stimulate class discussion, or determine where you or others may need help.
You can respond in any browser on any computer or mobile device.

- From the My Courses page, open your Live Response course.
- Select Join after your instructor starts a session.
- If necessary, wait for your instructor to send the first question or group of questions.
- Respond to the question and select Submit to display the next question, or use the navigation
to move among questions and respond.
- Matching - Select an item in the top row, then select one or more numbered answers. Each answer number you choose appears on the item in the top row.
- Written response - Enter your response in the box below the question. Some answers may require precise capitalization and punctuation for credit.
- Multiple choice - Select the correct answer(s).
- Region - Click to identify each required region in the image.
- Numerical - Enter a numerical answer and unit, using the equation editor.
- Direction - Select two points in the answer area to indicate a direction. The second point identifies the direction of the arrow.
- Hotspot - Click to identify hotspot(s) on the image in the question. Depending on how your instructor sets hotspot tolerances, you may need to click a precise spot.
You can view and submit questions in any order. Use the navigation arrows to revisit a question and see or change your response.


If your instructor sends questions again, you see an update message.
- Use the navigation to select a question and see your previous response.
- Change your answer, then select Change answer.
When you finish changing responses, wait for your instructor to tell you the next steps.

You may be asked to join a group chat when your instructor resends a question. Discuss the response with your group members before answering again.
- When you see a group chat popup, select Start chat to join.
Groups can include two to five members. Group member names appear as they join the chat.
- Discuss the question with your group.
On smartphones, the chat window hides the question. Select
to minimize the chat window and see the question. Select
to maximize the window again.
When you aren't looking at the chat window, you see a yellow alert when another group member sends you a message.
- When you're ready, enter your response to leave the group chat.
Your instructor can also end a chat.

If your instructor shares an answer during a session, the question navigation shows whether your response was correct . You also can read your instructor's comments, if any.
After a session ends, you can review your responses from your Past reports list.
