Learning Catalytics scores

You see results at the end of a session, telling you how many of your answers were correct.

You'll notice that the message distinguishes between questions with a correct answer, and questions without a correct answer. The responses to questions that ask you to sketch, upload an image, highlight text, vote for a favorite, and so on, cannot be evaluated by Learning Catalytics. Your instructor can, however mark those responses as correct, either to help you review later, or to award points.

Points allotted for individual questions

If your instructor does allot points for some or all questions, the questions with correct answers are scored automatically. Points are awarded for other questions if your instructor marks them as correct, as mentioned above.

If a question is worth 1 or more points, a correct response is granted all the allotted points, and an incorrect response receives 0.

Weighted scores

Because the goal of Learning Catalytics is to enhance learning through engagement, your instructor might not apply scores, or might weight some or all session scores more heavily for participation than for correctness.

You also see weighted scores if a Team-Based session is scored. In the Individual Round, each student receives points based on his or her correct answers. That score is then combined with the Team's score in the Team Round, to yield a weighted average of both sets of scores.
