Chiral molecular drawing example

This example is for the Molecular Drawing Tool.

1. Create a tutorial that asks students to draw R,R-2-bromo-3-chlorobutane.

For correct answers:

• Solid-wedge bonds must have the skinny end on the chiral carbon
  
  
• Hashed-wedge bonds can have either the skinny end or the fat end on the chiral atom, as long as the direction is consistent.
  
  

The system automatically grades both student answers as correct.

2. Generate parameters, correct expression, or answer string as for the previous example with methanol. Right-click the grid and make a selection.
3. For wrong answers, you can create solid-wedge bonds and hashed-wedge bonds in either direction.

Wrong answer examples:

Note:

• Hydrogen atoms must be graded if there is a hydrogen atom on a chiral carbon.
• Chiral grading is not compatible with Fischer projections or Haworth structures.
