Delete an assignment category from a course

You can delete a category that contains no assignments in the selected course. This includes the three provided categories (Homework, Quiz, and Test), as well as any categories you may have created. Each course must contain at least one category.
Special categories you cannot delete
You cannot delete the following specialized categories, if they exist in your course:
Adaptive category for Adaptive Follow-Up assignments
Dynamic Study Module category for Dynamic Study Module assignments
Interactive Lab category for Interactive Lab assignments
Learning Catalytics category for Learning Catalytics sessions
Delete a category from the current course
- Do one of the following.
- From an open assignment: On the
Settings page, select Add/Edit Categories. - From the Gradebook: Select
Gradebook Settings then Categories and Weighting.
- From an open assignment: On the
- Select Delete next to the name of the category.
If the Delete link isn't present, the category contains one or more assignments. To delete this category, you must first delete the assignments or assign them to a different category. (The Delete link may also be unavailable if this is the only category in the course, other than the specialized categories for Adaptive Follow-Up or Dynamic Study Module assignments. You can't delete the last remaining non-specialized category.)
- Select OK to permanently delete the category from this course.
