Manage chatrooms
You can lead a chatroom to communicate with students. You can type messages to your students and they type messages to you and to any other students who join the chatroom. Instructors only can create new chatrooms.
Download and install the latest version of Java to run Chat. If errors prevent you from using Chat, see the Java troubleshooting steps.
- Select Course Tools, and then select Chat & ClassLive.
You'll see a message that ClassLive retired.
- Select Chat.
- Select Add Chatroom.
- Type a chatroom Name in the text box (required).
- Add a description and select other options as applicable.
Note: You cannot assign a chatroom session to specific students or groups of students. Assign Room to: is permanently set to Entire Class.
- Select Add Room to add your new menu item, or Cancel. To add more chatrooms, select Save & Add Another Room.
- Select the Chat Logs icon.
- Select a Session Date to review a log, and then select back to return to the Chat Logs list.
- To delete a chat log, select the Delete icon , then select Delete or Cancel.
- Select the Edit icon .
- Modify the chatroom information as necessary.
- Select Save Changes or Cancel.
- Select the Delete icon .
- Select Delete Room & Chat Logs or Cancel.
- Select Course Tools, and then select Chat & ClassLive.
- Select Chat.
- Select the chatroom name in the Chatrooms list.
Note: If a security warning appears, choose the option to allow the application to open (for example, Run or Don’t Block).
- Select to enter Chat.
The chatroom for your course opens.
- Type your messages in the bottom of the chat window and press Enter to send it.
Important: The Chat Login Page window must remain open in order to use Chat.
