Set Adobe Reader to open in its own window

Updated 02 Jul 2021

PDF files are more accessible with screen readers when accessed in a viewer that is external to a web browser. If you use a screen reader, set up your PDF reader so that PDF files open in your reader by default instead of your browser.

Set Adobe Reader to open in its own window for PDF documents

  1. Open Adobe Reader.
  2. Select Document then Accessibility Setup Assistant.
  3. Select Next, accepting the defaults until you reach the fifth screen.
  4. On the fifth screen, clear the option Display PDF Documents In the Web Browser and close the assistant.
