Obtain access codes

You can request two kinds of complimentary Mastering access codes: Educator and Student.

Educator access code

An Educator access code is required to register and create a personal Educator user account. Each code is valid for only one Educator registration, though you can use the account for several years to create multiple courses. You must have separate access codes to register for different Mastering sites (Mastering Chemistry, Mastering Physics, and so on).

Because this code provides access to instructor materials, under NO circumstances should an Educator access code be given to a student! For student assistants/TAs, you should request complimentary Student access codes, as described below. Educator access codes remain the property of the publisher, may not be resold, and may be canceled at any time.

Student access code

Anyone who enrolls in your course as a student for credit must purchase access, but you can request complimentary Student access codes for the following purposes:

  • To register yourself as a Student and enroll in your own courses to see how students see them. You must create a different username for your Pearson student account than the one you use for your Pearson educator account.
  • To give to a Student section instructor (graduate assistant/TA) in your course. The student must register with the complimentary access code and sign in at least once. The student should not join (enroll in) your course. If the student does join the course, his or her enrollment is canceled as soon as you add him or her as a section instructor.

Be aware that any section instructor can automatically view student grades in the Gradebook, and see answers to all questions in the Item Library, even without any privileges that you grant.

  • To give to student tutors, interpreters, accessibility assistants, or others so they can enroll in your course. You should not add these course participants as section instructors.

Each student access code can be used only once. A student should never use a complimentary access code to enroll for credit. Complimentary access codes remain the property of the publisher, may not be resold, and may be canceled at any time.

Request access codes

You can request both kinds of access codes from your Pearson sales representative. Or, for Educator access codes only, you also have the option of requesting access online.
