Unzip files for assignments
Updated 19 Feb 2024
As you work on Mastering assignments, you may be asked to open or save a file with a name that ends in .zip. These files need to be extracted or unzipped from their compressed state so you can view or work with them.
- A zip/unzip utility may be included with your browser or operating system. This utility may be triggered automatically.
- If not, you may need to identify a program to extract (unzip) the file(s) in the zip archive, such as an extraction wizard or some freeware. If you don't have this kind of utility or don't know how to unzip files, search the Internet for unzip files on and identify your browser or operating system.
Unzipping files takes just a few seconds. The extracted size will be larger than the original, zipped version.
About Google Earth KMZ files
Keyhole Markup language Zipped (.kmz) files are used in some Mastering Geography, Geology, Meteorology and Oceanography assignment questions. It's best to complete these questions on a computer, not a mobile device. To view KMZ files on a computer, Google Earth must be installed. Similarly, download the Google Earth app to view these files on a tablet.
