System check for Mastering

If the check directs you to take action — Choose the provided link(s).
Any needed updates or changes may take from a few seconds to a few minutes. When you think you have resolved all issues, consider selecting Run check again to confirm that no further action is required.

If the computer you are using belongs to your school —
You may need to contact the school's IT department to make any recommended updates.

To proceed in Mastering without taking action in the moment —
Choose Ignore browser issues for 30 days. You may not be able to access all content in the course.

Update your browser version

1. Select Download.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest version.

   Consider accepting or applying the version auto-update feature that may be available for the browser.

Get missing plugins or update plugins

1. Select Download to get the latest browser plugin or player.
   You're directed to a site where you can download this.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the plugin.

   You don't need to install any other third party tools for your browser toolbar or install QuickTime Pro.

3. Enable the plugin for your current browser, if needed.

   For example, in Chrome select the red X in the address bar and then choose “Always allow plug-ins on chemistry.mastering.pearsoncmg.com”. (The Mastering domain name varies, depending on your product.)

Update browser settings

1. Select Instructions.
2. Follow the instructions on the Support page that appears. For example, pop-ups must be allowed for the Mastering site. How to change browser settings

You can postpone the automatic check if you aren’t ready to make the required updates and don’t want to see the same report each time you sign in to your course.

1. Select Ignore browser issues for 30 days in the lower right of the browser check window.
2. To reactivate the automatic check, clear the check box for Ignore browser issues for 30 days, sign out, and then sign in again to view the results of the automatic system check.

   You can also run the browser check on your own when you're ready. See next section for instructions.

If you encounter any browser issues while you are working in Mastering, you can run the system check on your own at any time. This is true, even if the automatic check is still set to be ignored for 30 days.

1. At the top of the Mastering page, select your linked name, next to Signed in as.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the User Settings page and click Run System Check (on the right).
3. If the check reports any issues, follow the on-screen instructions or see the above section “Make changes when action is required”.

The check is based on the system requirements for each Mastering product, such as for MasteringPhysics. It checks:

• Your browser and its version
• Browser settings, such as to allow pop-ups for the Mastering site
• Any needed browser plugins (such as QuickTime) or other application (such as Google Earth).

  Note: The system check does not check for the PowerPoint Viewer. If this or a comparable viewer is required for content, a notice appears to suggest remediation.

The check runs for each Mastering product you are using, such as Mastering Biology or Mastering Microbiology. Different products may require different plugins. Also, one browser on your system may be all set to run a Mastering site while another browser may not.

When you run the check for your browser after the required updates or changes have been made, the following message appears. The automatic check may recur if any new updates are needed.
