Comment on and grade composition assignments
After a student submits a composition assignment, you can open, review, comment on, and grade it. The MyLab then returns the document to the student with your comments and score.

To open, review, comment on, and grade a composition assignment:
- Do one of the following to display the Grade Assignments page:
- Click Grade Assignments under Manage Assignments on the Home page.
- Click the Assignments tab. Then click Grade Assignments.
- Click the student's name for the assignment you want to review.
The MyLab opens the assignment in the composing space.
The first time you open a submission in the composing space you are prompted to allow the MyLab access to your microphone. See The Flash Player settings for more information.
- If you allowed students to attach files to this assignment, click the file link(s) above the editor to open or save the attachments. (The Paperclip icon
precedes the attached files.)
- Comment on the assignment.
You can click the Return for Rewrite button to return a composition submission for a rewrite without grading it. For example, the student may have accidentally submitted it before completing it, or you want the student to submit another draft. The MyLab saves any comments you entered in the assignment's draft history. However, you cannot view the draft history until the student resubmits the assignment to you.
- Enter the number of points the student earned in the Score text box.
The MyLab displays the maximum number of points a student can earn for this assignment or draft to the right of the text box. For more information, see Grades as points or percentages.
- Click the Submit button.
The MyLab records the score in your gradebook and the student's gradebook, and returns the assignment with your comments to the student.
