Overview of your MyLab
Your MyLab empowers student writers and facilitates writing instruction by uniquely integrating a composing space and portfolio with proven resources and tools. Students receive individual feedback within the context of their own writing, which encourages critical thinking and revision while helping them hone their skills. Administrative features developed specifically for writing instruction bring you closer to your student writers, make managing assignments and evaluating papers more efficient, and save you time.
As a MyLab user, you have access to the following features for working with your students:
- A rich collection of Resources in writing, grammar, and research. Each topic provides instructions that introduce and explain the concept, multimedia that reinforce the concept, and exercises for students to practice and hone their skills. Students can dive right in and start working in Resources, or the MyLab can require Resource topics based on the results of students' diagnostics. You can require Resources for the entire class or, when commenting on students' writing, you can require topics based a student's individual needs. The students have quick access to these required topics in their Study Plan. And, the MyLab tracks each student's progress in Resources in the Gradebook.
- The Assignment Builder for developing and administering assignments. You can create composition, collaboration, peer-review, and portfolio assignments as catalysts for student writing. You can also create assignments that assign diagnostics and create quizzes (skill-building assignments) to assess students on specific skills. As you build an assignment, you can add files to it and create links to appropriate Resource topics.
- The composing space, complete with word-processing capabilities including review comments. Students use the composing features to create and revise their drafts with resources and tools at their fingertips. As an instructor, you can use the composing space to comment on students' writing in the context of their text. You can type in your comments, insert common errors, and create favorite comments that you can use over and over to save time. Common Errors and favorite comments link students to instruction, multimedia, and exercises that reinforce the topics they need help with.
You can pick and choose the features you want to use. There is no requirement to use them all; for example, you may be interested only in the Resources or composing features. You can style your MyLab course to fit the needs of your students and your course requirements.
