Insert a document

Use this procedure to copy and paste the contents of an external document into the composing space.

Before you begin, note the following:

The insert-a-document feature uses the paste-from-word functionality. To see a sample result of this functionality, see Examples of pasted text.

Note: This procedure does not attach a file to the assignment. To do that instead, see Attach a file to an assignment.

To insert a document:

  1. Open the document or assignment in the composing space. (This is the document into which you want to paste the contents of an external document.)
  2. Open the external document in the appropriate application.

For example, if you are pasting the contents of a Microsoft® Word document, open that document in Word.

  1. Copy all the content (in the external document) that you want to insert in the composing space.
  2. Return to the composing space.
  3. Select the File – Insert Document command in the composing space to display the Insert Document window. (Where is the File menu?)
  4. Press Ctrl-V (Command+V on a Mac) to paste the text into the window.
  5. Click the Insert button.
  6. Insert the external document's images into the document in the composing space if needed. (See Insert an image for more information.)
