Study Plan: Recall, Apply, and Write Properties

You can edit the Study Plan and set the default writing properties. These properties are on the Study Plan Properties page.

Each writing-skills topic provides the following learning exercises:

Recall exercises test students' knowledge of the subject at hand. These exercises are a series of multiple-choice questions, and students receive immediate feedback to their answers. The MyLab grades students' answers and posts the grades in the Gradebook.
Apply exercises test a student's ability to identify concepts and grammatical correctness. In exercises that test the ability to identify concepts, students answer multiple-choice questions on a writing sample. In grammar exercises, students make inline corrections to a writing sample. The MyLab gives students immediate feedback on whether the answer is correct and supporting information explaining why the correct answer is correct.
Write exercises show a student's comprehension of the writing concepts and provide an opportunity for you to communicate directly with each student. A student writes a draft based on a selected question or statement. As soon as the student submits the draft, it is available for you to review and grade. When you submit the review comments, the student can review them and possibly submit another draft.

Recall, Apply, and Write Settings

Required for Mastery: Select Yes if you are requiring that students work through a topic's Recall, Apply, and/or Write exercises in order to achieve mastery for that topic.
Mastery Score: Use this setting to specify the score that students must receive to achieve mastery. This setting is applicable only if you also select Yes for Required for Mastery.
Sets Available: Specify the number of Recall and Apply exercise sets the MyLab makes available to students: one, two, or all. (Regardless of the number of sets available, students do not need to work through all exercise sets to achieve mastery for a topic. They can achieve mastery based on a diagnostic pre-test or a topic's initial exercise set(s).)
Available to Students: Select Yes if you want students to have access to the Write exercises. Select No to block their access. Whether you choose Yes or No, you can still allow or deny access to write exercises on a topic-by-topic basis. See Hide and Show Activity Exercises for more information.
If you change the Available to Students setting after you have hidden or shown a topic's activity, the new Available to Students setting will override the topic setting.
Drafts Available: Use this setting to specify the maximum number of Write exercise drafts students can submit to you for review. Note that this is not a required number of drafts, just the maximum number of drafts students can submit if necessary. At any point you can designate a draft as a student's final draft.
