Apply Grammar Exercises

This type of Apply Exercise displays a block of text that you need to correct. For example, you may need to correct the spelling or punctuation.

The grammar exercises display a paragraph of content, with the instructions above the content. For some exercises you need to click the appropriate words or phrases in the content. For other exercises you need to also enter the corrections (for example, the correct punctuation or spelling).

As you work through these exercises, note the following:

For some exercises, you just need to click a word or phrase. For example, an exercise could require that you find all the verbs, and you would click the verbs in the text. However, if you click an incorrect word or phrase—for example, a noun instead of a verb—you will lose points.

For other exercises you need to type your correction, which is explained in the following procedure. You can also display a hint, which is explained at the end of this topic.

To enter a correction:

Use this procedure when you need to find an error and enter a correction.

  1. Click the error.

    A text box is displayed.
edit box on top of the exercise text

  2. Click in the text box and type your correction.
  3. Make sure your entry is correct (you will lose points if it is incorrect).
  4. Click the Submit button.

To view a hint:

Hints are available if you need them.

  1. Click the Hint button at the top of the content block.
  2. Click the line of text for which you want a hint.

The MyLab displays the hint at the top of the content block.

  3. Click the Get Answer button to have the MyLab find the error (and deduct points from your score) or click the Try Again button to find the error yourself.
