View readiness checks and practice tests with study plans
Readiness checks, also called study plans, and practice tests with study plans are designed to assess and ensure student comprehension of course materials prior to attending class. The readiness check is not meant to be a high-stakes assessment tool, like a test; rather, it is meant to lead a student down a personalized learning path, including multiple learning styles that result in mastery of the course materials.
Readiness checks typically include three components:
Pre-test: After reading the assigned material, students take the pre-test, which is a multiple choice quiz. The purpose of the pre-test is to assess the student’s comprehension level of the chapter content. You can specify how many times a student can take a pre-test.
Study material: Based on your students’ results, the MyLab creates a personalized set of study materials, which is a list of multimedia activities. Multimedia activities can present the same content as the textbook but in a highly visual manner. Formative assessment questions are included to check comprehension and provide contextual feedback.
Post-test: Students have unlimited attempts to successfully complete the readiness check post-test. They should continue to work and submit the post-test until they achieve the pass criteria you set for each level of the study material. By default, the post-test score in the gradebook is the most recent submission, but you can set a preference to display the highest post-test score if you prefer.
Pre-test questions are intricately tied to each level of study materials. After students submit the pre-test, they receive a score at each of these levels. If students do not achieve the passing threshold for each level, by default set at 70%, they get access to study materials that help them better understand the content they still need to master. After working through these study materials, students take the post-test, which also consists of questions associated with each level of the study material. Students can take the post-test an unlimited number of times until they achieve the passing threshold you set for each level.
Both pre- and post-test scores are recorded in the gradebook.
