The character palette toolbar provides a basic set of characters used in a specific language (Chinese Pinyin, French, German, Italian, Latin, Portuguese, or Spanish). It allows you to enter accents and characters without adjusting your keyboard for the different language.
Use the character palette to insert special characters into text boxes. The character palette displays Chinese Pinyin, French, German, Italian, Latin, Portuguese, or Spanish language characters, depending on the language set for the course. It is available in places where you have to enter text in a text box.
To insert a special character:
Place the cursor in the text box.
Click the required special character on the character palette.
By default, the character palette displays lowercase letters. To display upper-case letters, click Caps Lock. To return to the lowercase characters, click Caps Lock again. Note that the available characters depend on the language selected for your course. For a complete list, select your course language:

Italian,

Portuguese, or Spanish.
Chinese Pinyin character palette
The Chinese Pinyin character palette is a set of Pinyin characters used to transliterate Chinese words into sounds using a Latin alphabet. The character palette lets you insert these characters without converting your keyboard.
Click Pinyin Tone Marks to open the Chinese character palette.
