Control the student gradebook view

Updated 19 Feb 2024

Students can view their scores on their Gradebook > Grades page, which is their gradebook view. If available in your course, you can control which columns students can view in their gradebook.

Teaching assistants must have permission to change gradebook appearance. Use the Preferences > Permissions page to control which functionality is available to teaching assistants. (MyLab Languages only)

To show or hide a grade to students:

  1. MyLab Languages instructors: Click Gradebook or Gradebook > Custom View.

MyLab IT instructors: Click Grades > Instructor Gradebook or Grades > Custom View.

When a column is hidden from students, the column heading appears in strikethrough font.

  2. Make a selection from the column's context menu:
    • To make the column available to students, select Show for Student.
    • To remove the column from the student view, select Hide for Student.

If your students have a Gradebook > Custom View page and the column appears on both the Grades and Custom View page you must hide the column on both pages to hide it from students. If you hide it on only one page, it is still visible from the other page.

    • At any time, you can click Go to Student View in the top-right corner of the page to view your course as students see it. When you're done, click Return to Instructor View. (MyLab Languages only)

    • At any time, you can click the student view icon in the top-right corner of the page to view your course as students see it. When you're done, click the instructor view icon . (MyLab IT only)
