Grade file upload questions

Updated 19 Feb 2024

You need to manually grade any file upload questions in student submissions.

When you create an activity with file upload questions, you can specify that it requires manual grading. If you do, the manual grading icon ""appears after the activity name in Course Materials lists.

Teaching assistants must have permission to create groups. Use the Preferences > Permissions page to control which functionality is available to teaching assistants. (MyLab Languages only)

  1. Open the View Submissions window for the submission you want to grade. The question appears in the preview pane of the submissions window.

You can click Questions on the left, if available, to view the submission list sorted by activity question rather than by student. You will see all the files that students submitted as answers for that question. You can click a question to view and grade all student answers for that question at once rather than having to open each student submission individually.

  2. To view each file that students uploaded, click the document name link that appears below Uploaded Answers.
  3. To enter the grade, click the Grade field and enter the grade. Click Save. Note that the maximum score for the question appears for your reference. You can also click Save and Close to close the View Submissions page.
  4. To send feedback to the student, enter your Comments. Depending on your course design, you may also be able to Record Feedback. When you finish typing or recording feedback, click Save to continue or Save and Close to close the View Submissions page.
  5. After you enter your grades and comments, click Save and Next or click Previous to view the previous submission.
