In MyLab IT, study plans are designed to assess and ensure student comprehension of course materials prior to attending class. The study plan is not meant to be a high-stakes assessment, like a test; rather, it is meant to lead a student down a personalized learning path, including multiple learning styles that result in mastery of the course materials.

In MyLab Languages, readiness checks, also called study plans, and practice tests with study plans are designed to assess and ensure student comprehension of course materials prior to attending class. The readiness check is not meant to be a high-stakes assessment tool, like a test; rather, it is meant to lead a student down a personalized learning path, including multiple learning styles that result in mastery of the course materials.

MyLab Languages readiness checks

Readiness checks typically include three components:

Pre-test questions are intricately tied to each level of study materials. After students submit the pre-test, they receive a score at each of these levels. If students do not achieve the passing threshold for each level, by default set at 70%, they get access to study materials that help them better understand the content they still need to master. After working through these study materials, students take the post-test, which also consists of questions associated with each level of the study material. Students can take the post-test an unlimited number of times until they achieve the passing threshold you set for each level.

Both pre- and post-test scores are recorded in the gradebook.

  1. Click Study Plans & Course Content in the course menu.
  2. Click Course Materials > Manage Course Materials.
  3. Open a folder that contains a readiness check. Typically, each content folder includes one study plan folder.
  4. Click the down arrow to the right of the readiness check to open the options menu.
  5. Click Open.
