Adjust due dates for a different time zone
Updated 19 Feb 2024
The following example demonstrates how your course adjusts time zones when the instructor time zone and student time zone are different.
Assume that the following conditions are true:
- Instructor time zone is (GMT-8:00) Pacific Time (US and Canada).
- Student time zone is (GMT-5:00) Eastern Time (US and Canada).
- Instructor sets the activity due time to 11:00 PM.
Note that you set the due time for all activities in your course by selecting the Make all activities due at option on the Preferences > General page. You set an individual activity's due time by selecting Properties from the options menu of the activity.
In the above scenario:
- For the instructor, the assignment appears due at 11:00 PM on the current day.
- For the student the assignment appears due at 2:00 AM on the following day.
If, using this same example, you select Course overrides user profile preferences on the Preferences > Time Zone and Localization page, students would see the assignment as due at 11:00 PM on the current day. Your preference setting overrides the student's profile setting.
