Organize questions by narratives

Updated 19 Feb 2024

When you create or edit an activity of the basic/random behavioral mode, you can use the Organize by narrative option on the activity Preferences page to display questions in order based on their associated narrative rather than based on the folder where the question is stored.

When you organize activity questions by narrative:

  • Section settings defined on the activity Questions page are ignored; these include random, shuffle, section direction lines, and display of question number.
  • The activity is set to display one question per page on the activity Preferences page; you cannot change the number of questions displayed per page. However, you can select Display one section/narrative per page.
  1. When you create or edit an activity, ensure Basic/Random is selected on the Activity Details page.
  2. From the activity Preferences page, select Organize by Narrative.
  3. Click Order Narratives. The name of each narrative, the number of questions, and total points for all of the questions associated with the narrative appear.

Select Preview from the narrative name's options menu to view the narrative.

  4. Use the order icon to organize narratives in the order you want from first to last. "None" includes any questions in the activity that are not associated with a narrative.
  5. If available, clear the Display item numbers in question checkbox to hide question numbers during activity presentation. These checkboxes are available if you select Display one section/narrative per page on the activity Preferences page.
  6. Click Save and Close.
