Add alternative answers

Adding alternative answers to questions lets you accept specific spelling, capitalization, or other variations that may occur when students enter answers to questions.

You can specify alternative answers for questions as you add them to an activity, when you edit them, or as you assign the activity.

  1. Add or create the activity

    Click Course Materials or Assignment Calendar, locate the activity, and select Edit from its options menu.

  2. On the Questions page, locate the question to which you want to add alternative answers and click the down arrow in the Options column to its right.
  3. Select Edit.
  4. Click Add Score and Feedback or Add Answer, whichever appears on the page.
    • If you clicked Add Score and Feedback:
      1. In the Answer column, locate the answer to which you want to add an alternate.
      2. Click Edit in the Alternative answers column to the answer’s right. A new window appears.
      3. Enter the alternative answer in the Alternate answer box.
      4. Click Add.
      5. Repeat these steps to add additional alternate answers, as needed.
      6. When you finish, click OK.
    • If you clicked Add Answer:
      1. Click Add in the top-right corner of the Answer section.
      2. In the new row that appears, enter the alternative answer.
      3. Enter a point value for the answer in the Score column.
      4. Repeat these steps to add additional alternate answers as needed.
  5. Add alternative answers, as needed, to other questions in the activity.
  6. When you finish editing the activity, click Save and Close.
