Work with the testbank

Updated 19 Feb 2024

Use the Testbank section on the left of the MyTest page to view folders and testing questions created in the Question Bank. You can click to open a question folder and view the correct answers for auto-graded question types.

Display folders and questions in the Testbank

The testbank displays folders and test questions in the MyTest testbank. Test questions are questions that you or the question author expect to use for graded student assessments.

  • To display a folder in the testbank, select Display this folder in Testbank View of MyTest when you create or edit the folder.
  • Make sure that the folder contains test questions. If it does not include test questions, the folder appears empty when you open it in the MyTest testbank.
  • To display a question in the testbank, select Include only Testing on the question Preferences > Details page when you create or edit the question.
  • The testbank displays only multiple choice, multiple response, matching, true/false, essay, and fill-in-the-blank question types that have the Testing On option selected on the activity Details page enabled.

Your testbank may include a folder called My Questions Folder. You cannot edit this folder name because it contains questions you created while creating tests on the MyTest page.

Display question details (MyLab IT only)

Pearson testbanks contain a wealth of information that you can use to build effective tests, and many testbanks include detailed information about each question.

For example, a testbank may contain page references for the textbook, a level of difficulty established by the author, or the learning objective that the question addresses.

Question details can help you select the most appropriate questions for your test. When you add a question to a test, the question details do not appear on the test.

  1. Click Instructor Grades & Assignments > MyTest.
  2. To open a folder in the testbank, click the folder name or the expand icon.
  3. Navigate through the folder hierarchy until questions appear.
  4. Click Show Question Details on the toolbar, if available. Details appear below each question.
  5. To hide details, click Hide Question Details on the toolbar.

Filter the testbank questions (MyLab IT only)

You can browse through a testbank to find what you need, or you can use the filter option to view only certain types of questions. For example, you may want to structure a test based on a specific level of difficulty or skill type.

  1. Before you filter the testbank, you need to understand the filter options that are available to you. To view the details by which you can filter, open a folder in the testbank, click Show Question Details, and review the details available in your testbank. Show Question Details appears only if this option is enabled in your course.
  2. Click Filter Testbank.
  3. Choose an option from the Filter By list. For example, your testbank questions may include a level of difficulty. The available options are determined by the available question details.
  4. Type a keyword in Enter the filter term. For example, to filter by question difficulty, enter 3-Difficult, 2-Medium or 1-Easy.
  5. Click Go. The results that match your search criteria appear. When a filter is applied, (On) appears after Filter Testbank.
  6. To remove the filter and view all available folders and questions, click Filter Testbank and click Clear Filter.
