Use the character palette
Updated 27 Jul 2022
If enabled, the character palette toolbar provides a basic set of characters used in a specific language (Chinese Pinyin, French, German, Italian, Latin, Portuguese, or Spanish). It allows you to enter accents and characters without adjusting your keyboard for the different language.
Use the character palette to insert special characters into text boxes. The character palette displays French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish language characters, depending on the language set for the course. It is available in places where you have to enter text in a text box.
-
The character palette is not available in all courses. If you do not see a character palette it means the feature is not available to you.
-
The character palette is only available if Enable Special Character Palette for Course is selected on the course Preferences > General page or if Pearson has enabled it. Instructors must enable this feature for TAs.
The character palette displays the language selected in the Select Language for tools in the course option on the same Preferences page.
- Place the cursor in the text box.
- Click the required special character on the character palette.
- By default, the character palette displays lower-case letters. To display upper-case letters, click Caps Lock (to return to the lower-case characters, click Caps Lock again). Note that the available characters depend on the language selected for your course.
