Entering Special Characters in Quizzes
If a question you need to answer requires that you type special characters, such as accented letters, you can enter these characters using the Special Characters link that will appear below the question number.
If a Special Characters link does not appear, the Companion Website author did not list special characters that you can enter in the answer.
To insert a special character in a quiz answer:
- In a question that requires a special character, click the answer box. (You can type the rest of the text of the answer first if you want; if you do, click the place where you want to insert the special character.)
- Click the Special Characters link below or to the right of the question number.
- In the Special Characters window that appears, click the character you want to insert. The character appears in the position you clicked in the answer box.
- Close the Special Characters window.
- Continue to the next question in the quiz.
Notes:
- Make sure your browser meets the site requirements for Companion Websites, and that you have both JavaScipt and cookie options enabled. For more information on enabling JavaScript and cookies, see your browser's documentation.
- For each question into which you want to insert a special character, you must click the answer box, open the Special Characters window, select a character, and close the window. You cannot keep the window open and insert characters in several questions in the quiz.
- Inserting special characters works best when you set your system font to a sans-serif font, such as Arial or Helvetica, rather than a serif font, such as Times or Times New Roman.
