Restrict tests and quizzes to specific IP addresses
If student internet access is controlled by your institution's server settings, ensure secure access: Require students to use these servers to take quizzes or tests.
- Students must take the tests on campus — The server is only accessible from your campus intranet.
- Students must take the tests in a specific lab — The server is only accessible from a specific computer lab.
If you're an instructor, access restricted tests or quizzes without using the proxy server.
Servers are identified by their IP addresses comprised of 4 integers separated by periods (.), such as 18.104.22.168. You'll need your institution's public IP address range to apply IP address restrictions to tests or quizzes. If you do not know this, please contact your local lab or IT administrator.
Go to the assignment creation wizard Step 3. Use these settings for any of the following options:
Access Controls, IP Address Range — Deselect, Change, or Allow students to review this assignment from any IP address.
- All tests and quizzes — At the course level:
If you change course-level restrictions after the course started — The revised settings are only applied to new tests or quizzes. For example, if you specify 2 IP address ranges at the course level and later remove 1 of them at the course level, existing assignments continue to have the 2 ranges. New assignments have only 1.
