Run the browser check

Updated 11 Jan 2024

The Browser Check makes sure that your laptop or desktop has the components you need to work in your program. If any components are missing, the Browser Check helps you install them.

The Browser Check runs automatically the first time you access a test. In many programs, a Browser Check link appears on your announcements page.

You must have administrator rights to your computer to install any type of software on it. Select the Administrator Rights link at the top of the Browser Check window to find out whether you have administrator rights.

The results of the Browser Check display in a new window:

  • If a component name displays in red, select Install Now.
  • If you see Check Version after a component name, the Browser Check can't determine whether you need to install it. Click this link to open a test page that tells you whether you need to install or upgrade the component.
  • Components that you already have are shown with a check mark.

Select Details to view information on the component.
