Run the Browser Check

You run the Browser Check to make sure that you have everything you need to answer questions in assignments and work in your course. The Browser Check helps you install any plug-ins (for example, QuickTime or Adobe Reader) you need to view videos and read the online textbook.

Using the Browser Check

The results of the Browser Check appear in a new window:

If you see a warning icon , click the Install Now link to install the missing component.
If you see Check Version after a component's name, the Browser Check can't determine whether you need to install it. Click this link to open a test page that will tell you whether you need to install or upgrade the component.
Components that you already have are shown with a blue check mark .

You can click Show Details to view information on what the component does and where you can find out more about it. Click Hide Details to close the information box.

About the Browser Check

The Browser Check runs automatically the first time you access your course. If you are missing any components needed to work in your course, you are prompted to install them. Some components, such as QuickTime, are optional, but you probably will need them to get help when you are practicing and doing homework.

You must have administrator rights to your computer to install any type of software on it. If your computer belongs to you, you almost certainly have administrator rights. If the computer belongs to someone else (for example, your company or your school), you probably don't. Click the Administrator Rights link at the top of the Browser Check window to find out how you can check whether you have administrator rights.
