Editing toolbar

Undo or Redo the previous edit	Click Undo to undo the most recent edit, such as entering, copying, pasting, or deleting text. (There is only one level of Undo.) This button is available when the arrow is bold. Click Redo to repeat the most recent edit. (There is only one level of Redo.)This button is available when the arrow is bold. Insert or edit a formula using TeX codes	Select the text to code, or place the insertion point where you want to add TeX code. Click the TeX button. See Add and edit TeX for more information. Alternatively, you can select TeX from the editing pop-up menu. (See section below for more about the editing pop-up menu.)
Format text as bold, italic, or underlined	Select text to format, or place the insertion point where you want to enter new text. Click the Bold, Italic, or Underline icon to format the text. Keyboard shortcuts: Windows- Bold: Ctrl+B, Italic: Ctrl+I, Underline: Ctrl+U Mac OS- Bold: Command-B, Italic: Command-I, Underline: Command-U
Format as bulleted list	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter new bullet text. Click the Bullet list menu and choose from Default, Circle, Disc, or Square.
Format as numbered list	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter new numbered text. Click the Numbered list menu and choose from Default, Lower Alpha , Lower Greek, Lower Roman, Upper Alphaor Upper Roman.
Insert/edit an image	See Add and edit images for more information. Alternatively, you can select Insert > Insert image from the editing toolbar menus. From your view of an item (not in the Simple Editor), you can also manage image assets by selecting Manage Assets from the Manage this Item menu.
Insert/edit a link	See Adding and editing hyperlinks for more information. You can insert a link in any of the following ways: Clicking the Insert/edit link toolbar button. Selecting the Insert link from the Insert menu. Selecting the Insert link option from the editing pop-up menu. (See section below for more about the editing pop-up menu.) Entering a keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+K (Windows), Command-K (Mac OS) Note: You cannot use the Simple Editor to add or edit links to the eText. You can, however, delete an eText link in existing content.
Open the Help for formatting	To get more information about the editor while working, click Help. To find topics containing specific terms, use the Search box.

Insert or edit a formula using TeX codes

Select the text to code, or place the insertion point where you want to add TeX code.
Click the TeX button.

Format text as bold, italic, or underlined

Bold, Italic, Underline icons

Select text to format, or place the insertion point where you want to enter new text.
Click the Bold, Italic, or Underline icon to format the text.

Keyboard shortcuts:

Windows- Bold: Ctrl+B, Italic: Ctrl+I, Underline: Ctrl+U
Mac OS- Bold: Command-B, Italic:

Format as bulleted list

Bullet list icon

Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter new bullet text.
Click the Bullet list menu and choose from Default, Circle, Disc, or Square.

Format as numbered list

Numbered list icon

Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter new numbered text.
Click the Numbered list menu and choose from Default, Lower Alpha , Lower Greek, Lower Roman, Upper Alphaor Upper Roman.

Insert/edit an image

Alternatively, you can select Insert > Insert image from the editing toolbar menus.
From your view of an item (not in the Simple Editor), you can also manage image assets by selecting Manage Assets from the Manage this Item menu.

Insert/edit a link

You can insert a link in any of the following ways:

Clicking the Insert/edit link toolbar button.
Selecting the Insert link from the Insert menu.

Entering a keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+K (Windows), Command-K (Mac OS)

Note: You cannot use the Simple Editor to add or edit links to the eText. You can, however, delete an eText link in existing content.

To get more information about the editor while working, click Help.
To find topics containing specific terms, use the Search box.

Editing menus (Edit, Insert, Format, Table)

The toolbar menus provide more editing and formatting options.

Edit menu

You are probably already familiar with the standard editing commands available from the Edit menu.

Redo	Click Edit > Redo to redo your last editing action. Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+Y (Windows) Command-Y (Mac OS)
Cut	Click Edit > Cut to cut (delete) your selected text, table, image, or link. Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+X (Windows) Command-X (Mac OS)
Copy	Click Edit > Copy to copy your selected text, table, image, or link. Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+C (Windows) Command-C (Mac OS) Copy and paste content within an item or between items: You can copy and paste content (text, links, or tables) between text boxes in the same item or in different items. This includes items opened from different Mastering products, such as MasteringBiology and MasteringA&P.
Paste	Click Edit > Paste to paste text or any table, image, or link that you just copied. Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+V (Windows) Command-V (Mac OS) Copy and paste content within an item or between items: You can copy and paste content (text, links, or tables) between text boxes in the same item or in different items. This includes items opened from different Mastering products, such as MasteringBiology and MasteringA&P.
Select All	Click Edit > Select all to make a selection before applying another editing action, like cutting. Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+A (Windows) Command-A (Mac OS)
Find and replace	Click Edit > Find and replace or enter a keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+F (Windows), Command-F (Mac OS). In the Find box, enter the term(s) you want to find. In the Replace with box, enter the term(s) you want to use as a replacement. [Optional] Choose whether to match the case or use whole words in your search. To make replacement decisions one-by-one: Click Find and then click either Replace or Next (to skip replacement). To replace all automatically: Click Replace all. When you are finished, click X to close the Find and replace window

Insert menu

Insert image	See Add and edit images for more information. You can insert an image either by selecting Insert image from the Insert menu or by clicking the Insert/edit image toolbar button.
Insert link	See Add and edit links for more information. You can insert a link in any of the following ways: Selecting the Insert link from the Insert menu. Clicking the Insert/edit link toolbar button. Selecting the Insert link option from the editing pop-up menu. (See section below for more about the editing pop-up menu.) Entering a keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+K (Windows), Command-K (Mac OS)
Special character	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter a special character. Click Insert > Space character. Click to select the special character from the provided characters. (As you mouse over a character, it appears enlarged in a viewer window.) Click OK or X to close the window.
Nonbreaking space	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter a nonbreaking space. Click Insert > Nonbreaking space. The nonbreaking space is a variant of the space character that prevents: A line wrap at its position The collapsing of multiple white space characters into a single space (it is used to insert additional visible space)

Format menu

Option	Steps
Bold	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter bold text. Click Format > Bold.
Italic	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter italic text. Click Format > Italic.
Underline	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter underline text. Click Format > Underline.
Superscript	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter a new superscript. Click Format > Superscript.
Subscript	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter a new subscript. Click Format > Subscript.
Strikethrough	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to enter strikethrough text. Click Format > Strikethrough.
Font Family	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to format text in a particular font family style. Click Format > Font Family, and then choose either Serif Font, Sans Serif Font, or Monospace Font.
Text size	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to format text in a different size. Click Format > Text Size, and then choose either Small or Large.
Alignment	Select the text that you want to align horizontally. Click Format > Alignment, and then choose either Left, Center, Right, or Justify (align both left and right).
Blocks	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to format text as a block. Click Format > Text Size, and then choose either Paragraph, Pre, or Blockquote.
Inline	Select the text to change, or place the insertion point where you want to format text as monospace (to indicate user keyboard input). Click Format > Inline > kbd.
Clear formatting	Click Format > Clear formatting to clear the formatting you just applied. (Same action as Undo.)

Table menu

The Table menu commands you can choose from the editing toolbar are also available from the editing pop-up menu that you can open either with a right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) when the cursor is in a text box.

Insert table	Choose Table > Insert table and then use the provided grid to select number of table columns and rows. See Add and edit tables for detailed instructions.
Delete table	Select a table and then choose Table > Delete table. Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+X (Windows), Command-X (Mac OS)
Cell	Select a cell and then choose Table> Cell and an option: Cell properties Merge cells Split cell
Row	Select a row and then choose Table> Row and an option: Insert row before Insert row after Delete row Row properties Cut row Copy row Paste row before Paste row after
Column	Select a column and then choose Table > Column and an option: Insert column before Insert column after Delete column

Editing pop-up menu (Insert link, TeX, Insert table, Cell, Row, Column, Delete table)

When the cursor is in a text box, you can right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) to show the editing pop-up menu. The editing pop-up menu lets you easily access the following formatting commands:
