Early Alerts: Course summary view

Risk levels are shown as the number of students, percentage, and bar graphs.

View risk update schedule and setting thresholds — Point to next to Current Risk Levels to show when risk levels are updated. The ranges that separate high, medium, and low risk are also shown. (To change these risk settings, see instructions below.)

• Address medium and high risk students — If most of the class is at high or medium risk, consider class remediation on content from recent assignments. If you think the medium risk threshold is set too low, consider changing the risk settings (instructions below).

• Address No/Low Info for students — Remind these students to complete recent assignments by sending them an email (instructions below). If most of the class has No/Low Info, you may not have assigned enough assignments in recent weeks for Early Alerts to calculate risk levels. For details, see About the data behind risk levels.

• See student names for a current risk-level group — Select the bar in the graph for a risk group. The Student List page opens, filtered to show students in that group. You may need to scroll to view all the names. Select Course Summary to return to the previous view.

The line graphs for Current Risk Levels show how the percentage of students in each risk level changes over time, since the beginning of the course.

• Point on a line for more details. The date, number of students, and percentage of the class are shown above the line graph.

  

1. Select the email icon for a risk group in the Current Risk Levels area to send a message to all of its student members.
2. Enter your message.

3. Accept or clear the selection to also send yourself a copy.

4. Select Send.

1. Select Student List from the Early Alerts menu.
2. Select the applicable check boxes in the student list (lower on the page):
   • For individual students, select the check boxes next to the student names.
   • For ALL students, select the check box for the Student column heading.
3. Select in the Interventions area to open the message form.
   (The number of email recipients appears in the parentheses.)
4. Enter your message.
5. Accept or clear the selection to also send yourself a copy.

6. Select Send.

Each student’s first name is automatically added after “Hi” to personalize your message. As the course owner, your first and last name is automatically provided at the end. Any student replies go to the email address for your Pearson educator account for the course.

Select  Search students (top right), then enter a student name. The Search box works for student names only.

• If a single match is found — That individual student’s current risk and risk history are shown.
• For a match of more than one student — The Student List opens with risk information for those students. Choose a student name for individual risk data.

Select  Options menu (on the right), then Share Feedback. Choose whether the section was helpful, enter any comments, and select Send.

What happens with your feedback? Your comments can help to guide future refinements to Early Alerts and its risk algorithm. Work is ongoing to improve the Early Alerts experience and its usefulness for you and your students.
