Defining hotspots using the Icon Hotspot tool

Hotspots can be displayed in two ways, either as a simple rectangular highlight or as an icon. You can customize the icon hotspot using the Authoring Tool; once modified, the hotspot is called a custom icon. Custom icons are available for excel, url, power point, word and email media types. Custom icons are also used for LTIlinks to identify the specific LMS.

Once an eText is published from the Authoring Tool, custom icons appear in the Viewer.

You can define the following icon hotspots using the Icon Hotspot tool:

  • Audio
  • Email
  • Excel
  • Media
  • PDF
  • PowerPoint
  • URL
  • Video
  • Word
  • Custom icons
  • LTI link
  • Jazz asset
  • iPad app

  1. From Authoring Home, select or search for an eText.
  2. From the Authoring menu, click Review eText Pages, Region Hotspots and Zoom areas.
  3. Select the icon hotspot you want from the drop-down menu, shown in the following figure.
