Automatic and manual scoring
Updated 05 Mar 2024
If you assign point values to questions in a module, many student responses are scored automatically, based on correct answers stored with the questions.
For responses that aren't scored automatically, the answer is initially marked incorrect and the student's score is 0.
You can manually mark the answer correct. If a manually marked question is worth 0 points, you don't have to mark it, but you should if it's at all possible. Unless you do, students don't know if their answer is correct.
If the question is worth more than 0 points, you must mark it or students will get no credit for their correct answers.
There's no partial credit; an answer is either right or wrong.
How question types are scored
Always automatically scored. You can manually change any grade to correct or incorrect.
Possibly automatically scored. For details about how to create one of these questions so that it is automatically scored, see Options for different question types. (Even if responses aren't scored automatically, you can manually grade them as correct or incorrect.)
