Supported prefixes and units
Prefixes
You can enter any of the following prefixes for units that support them in the Units box while coding, and students can enter these prefixes in their answers. Units that support prefixes are shown in bold in the supported units tables. SI prefixes are supported only on base units explicitly indicated.
Prefix | Symbol | 10^n | Prefix | Symbol | 10^n
deci | d | 10^-1 | deka | da | 10^1
centi | c | 10^-2 | hecto | h | 10^2
milli | m | 10^-3 | kilo | k | 10^3
micro | μ (infix = mu) | 10^-6 | mega | M | 10^6
nano | n | 10^-9 | giga | G | 10^9 | ||
pico | p | 10^-12 | tera | T | 10^12
femto | f | 10^-15 | peta | P | 10^15
atto | a | 10^-18 | exa | E | 10^18
zepto | z | 10^-21 | zetta | Z | 10^21
yocto | y | 10^-24 | yotta | Y | 10^24 |
Unit systems are shown as either:
- SI for International System of Units (metric)
- US for U.S. Customary System
- SI and US, if available for both
If several codes are supported for the same unit, and all codes use the same unit system, the unit system is shown only once. However, if codes have different unit systems, a unit system is provided for each code, in the order the codes are listed. For example, if there are three codes for one unit, and the first two codes are SI and the third is US, the designation is SI, SI, US. If all three are SI, SI appears just once.
Note: For the student view, the system automatically converts answers between units in the same unit system.
Supported units are arranged alphabetically within the following categories:
