Import scores into the Mastering Gradebook

You can use a spreadsheet to import scores into the Mastering Gradebook from offline activities such as labs and exams.

  1. Create an offline activity in the Gradebook.
  2. Download a template spreadsheet (see below).
  3. Enter scores into the spreadsheet.
  4. Import scores (see below).
  1. From the Course Home —
    Select Gradebook Settings (Getting Started area).
  2. Select Offline Activities.
  3. Select Import Scores in the Actions column for the activity.
  4. Select Export a template for importing scores and select a location and name for the .csv file.

    The spreadsheet template includes all students currently enrolled in the course, including any suspended students.

  5. Open the .csv file and then either copy scores from another spreadsheet to this one (making sure that the right student has the right scores!) or enter scores into the spreadsheet.
  6. Save the file and remember its location.
  1. From the Course Home —
    Select Gradebook Settings (Getting Started area).
  2. Select Offline Activities.
  3. Select Choose File then navigate to the .csv file that contains the scores you entered.

    To choose the file either double-click it (or select it then choose Open) to return to the Mastering Offline Activities tab.

  4. Choose Import.

    The Gradebook validates the file and assigns scores based on each student's username. No score is assigned to any student whose username either isn't in the spreadsheet or appears more than once.

  5. Select Close to return to the Mastering Gradebook, where you see the newly imported scores displayed as either points or percentages, depending on your Gradebook display preference.

Students see these imported scores in their Scores page. Consider posting Mastering announcements to describe these assignments and remind students of their due dates.
