Learning Catalytics category
Updated 19 Feb 2024
This information applies to courses in which you use Learning Catalytics and transfer session scores to the Mastering Gradebook.
Unlike other categories in a Mastering course, the Learning Catalytics category uses no settings that you adjust in Mastering. All settings for a Learning Catalytics module are applied when you create or edit the module in Learning Catalytics.
The Learning Catalytics category enables you to:
- Weight Learning Catalytics module sessions with respect to other Mastering assignments to control students' final grades in the Gradebook and on the Mastering Scores page that students see.
For example, you might want all Learning Catalytics scores to be worth 10% of the Mastering grade, all Homework assignments to account for 30%, all Quiz scores to account for 60%.
- Filter your view of the Mastering Gradebook to include only Learning Catalytics scores.
The Learning Catalytics category is not included with every Mastering course. It's added only when you deliver the first Learning Catalytics session for which you have requested that scores be transferred.
Other restrictions surrounding the Learning Catalytics category are:
- You can't delete or rename the Learning Catalytics category.
- You can't add a category named "Learning Catalytics"; it can only be added automatically, as described above.
- You can't change the category of a Learning Catalytics session. A scored module session is always associated with the Learning Catalytics category.
- You can't add other assignments to this category. Only Learning Catalytics module sessions are associated with this category, and the association happens automatically.
