Answer free-response questions with JAWS

You can use the JAWS screen-reader software to answer free response questions presented in the standard player.

To answer questions using JAWS:

  1. Use JAWS to read the question.
  2. Enter Tab until the focus is on the edit field.
  3. After you hear "answer edit field," use the player command line language to enter your answer.
  4. If you are doing an activity:
    1. Select Check Answer.
    2. Listen to the feedback telling you whether the answer is correct or incorrect.
    3. If the answer is incorrect, enter a different answer and select Check Answer. If you need some help, select a learning aid.

      You are allowed a limited number of attempts. If you reach the limit before entering the correct answer, you can no longer enter an answer. You hear both the correct and incorrect answers in normal English and in the command line language when you reread the question.

    4. If the answer is correct, you will hear the answer in normal English and in the command line language when you reread the question.
  5. Select another question using the navigation bar above the work area. In an assessment, you can use the Next or Previous buttons below the work area.
  6. If you are doing an activity and you want to finish the activity at a later time, use the Save button below the work area. When you return to the activity, your answers will be reloaded into the player, and you can continue from where you left off.
  7. When you finish the assignment, use the Submit or Submit Activity button below the work area.
