Manually grade skill-building assignments
Some exercises in a skill-building assignment may need to be manually graded, such as those where the student has to write the answer (for example, an introduction or a transition paragraph). You can open, review, and grade these assignments as you would any other assignment.
The MyLab calculates the number of points possible for each question based on the total number of points possible for the exercise. For example, if the exercise is worth a total of 150 points and has 10 questions, each question has a maximum point value of 15. (For more information on points, see Display grades as points or percentages.)
To manually grade a skill-building assignment:
- Do one of the following to display the Grade Assignments page:
- Click Grade Assignments under Manage Assignments on the Home page.
- Click the Assignments tab. Then click Grade Assignments.
- Click the student's name for the skill-building exercise you want to grade.
The assignment details are displayed. Each exercise that has responses that you need to manually grade has a Grade button
- Click a Grade button.
The MyLab displays all the exercise questions and student responses. For a written response, it also displays the Suggested Answer.
- Scroll to a written response.
- (Optional) Enter your comments on the student's response in the Comments text box.
- Enter the number of points the student earned for his or her response in the Score text box.
The MyLab displays the maximum number of points a student can earn for this question to the right of the text box.
- Do one of the following:
- Click the Save and Return Later button (at the bottom of the page) to close the exercise and return later to finish grading it. (Repeat this procedure to resume grading the exercise.)
- Click the Submit button when you have finished grading the exercise.
When you finish grading all exercises for the skill-building assignment, the MyLab records the final grade in both your and the student's gradebook, and returns the assignment with your scores to the student.
