Submit a student document to SourceCheck

When enabled, the SourceCheck originality checker is available for composition and collaboration assignments that students write in the composing space and then submit to you. You can send a document to SourceCheck as part of the process of grading and commenting on the assignment.

The turnaround time from submission to SourceCheck to receipt of the report is typically 24 hours.

To send a student's submission to SourceCheck:

  1. Open a student's composition or collaboration assignment in the composing space.

The content being checked must reside in the composing space; SourceCheck cannot review an attached document. If the content is in an attached file, you can copy and paste its contents into the composing space.

  2. Click Check Sources under Writing and Research in the Toolkit.

Next you see a dialog box that may be displaying the document's Submission History. A Submission History tracks all submissions of a document to SourceCheck by you and the student. The history also displays a View Report link for each report already created. You can either click a View Report link to review a report or go on to the next step in this procedure.

Note: The dialog box may also display the number of Remaining submissions you have. This is the counter for the number of submissions allowed by your administration. If Remaining submissions is not displayed, you have unlimited submissions.

  3. Click the Submit Draft button to send the document to SourceCheck.

The Submission History shows that the report is Pending, and that it will be completed in 24 hours. Click the Close link to exit the Submission History. See Review a SourceCheck report to display the SourceCheck results.

Important: You can review and comment on a student's document and even enter a Score. However, if you want to see the SourceCheck report before submitting the document to the student, do not click the Submit button. Instead, choose the File – Save and Close or File – Save command to save your comments.
