Access the Diagnostic Pre-Tests
When your instructor is including reading-level topics in your course, the course automatically requires that you complete the Lexile Diagnostic before you can enter the course. See Take a Diagnostic Test on Your Own for more information.
For the reading-skill diagnostics, the instructor decides how and when you can access them.
- Some instructors require that students complete the reading-skills diagnostic pre-tests before they can have full access to the course. In this case, the MyLab displays the Diagnostic Required screen with links to one or more pre-tests when you log in. See Take a Required Diagnostic Test for more information.
- Instructors can also assign reading-skills diagnostics and, optionally, assign due dates. In this case you need to click the Study Plan tab to view the required diagnostics. See Assigned Topics and Diagnostic Activities and Take a Diagnostic Test on Your Own for more information.
- The instructor has hidden the diagnostics and you cannot access them. In this case you cannot take the diagnostic tests.
Open Diagnostic Pre-Tests
How you open a diagnostic pre-test depends on whether you must complete it before you can have full access to the course.
- The instructor requires that students take pre-tests before gaining full access: When the MyLab displays the Diagnostics Required screen with links to reading-skills and/or Lexile diagnostics, you must complete all the tests before you can access the rest of the course materials. Click a pre-test's link to open the diagnostic test. See Take a Required Diagnostic Test for more information.
- The pre-tests are either assigned or optional: You have full access to the course and can take the tests on your own. See Take a Diagnostic Test on Your Own for more information.
Note: The instructor can choose to hide the reading-skills diagnostic pre-tests, in which case you cannot access them.
Similarly, the instructor determines whether or not you have access to the reading-level (Lexile) diagnostics and topics.
