Add teaching support materials

When available, the Teaching Support page lets you define materials and links that you and other course instructors can access while previewing an activity. This information can improve your understanding of the activity. You can define links to an asset in the Course Materials Library, to a website, or to a Pearson eText.

Note: The Teaching Support page is available only for activities set to the basic/random behavioral mode. You must select Enable Teaching Support tab on the Preferences > General page to use this feature.

Add teaching support information

The support information you add on the Teaching Support page of an activity can include text instructions and links to other resources.

To add text information:

To add links to other resources:

  1. Click Add Links and select the appropriate option:

    The material appears on the Teaching Support page. The Link Name and Type also appears.

  2. To open any links you add, click the Source link that appears beneath each link, or select Preview from the options menu.
  3. To reorder the links, use the order icon to drag and drop the link to a new location.
  4. To edit, remove, or hide the link from students, use the collapsedoptions menu.

    Note: Teaching assistants must have permission to access certain menu options. Instructors specify which options are available to teaching assistants from the Preferences > Permissions page.

    Preview the asset in a new window.

    Note if the asset is an activity, the test presentation window opens:

    • If the activity author entered beginning and end messages on the activity Messages page, you see the Start and Cancel button prior to the activity questions. Click Start to preview the activity.
    • If Enable Teaching support tab is enabled on the Preferences > General page, then the Teaching Support window is available. This window is not available to students.
    • Click the arrow on the Teaching Support icon to view the Notes and Links provided for the asset.
    • Click the Edit link in the Notes section to edit or remove the information and then click OK.
    • Click assets in the Links section to view the material of each link.

    Edit

    (not available for activities)

    Open Edit window for the asset, make appropriate edits, and click Save.

    Note: If you are editing a file and select a new file, the new file replaces your current file. The new file will appear in all assets using the current file.

    Remove

    Delete the asset.

    In the confirmation window, click OK to confirm the deletion.

    Show/Hide

     

    Show the asset to or hide the asset from students.

    • If the asset is Shown, click Hide. The status changes to Hidden, and the asset is no longer visible to students.
    • If the asset is Hidden, click Show. The status changes to Shown, and the asset is visible to students.

    Tip: When an asset is hidden from students, the asset name appears in italic font.

  5. To continue creating your activity, click Save and Continue or choose an alternate navigation option.

Edit teaching support information

You can edit the text and link information for an asset from the Teaching Support page as described above. When previewing an asset, you can also access and edit the information to suit your needs.

To edit Teaching Support information for an asset during preview:

  1. Select Preview from the asset's options menu. If Teaching Support is enabled for the asset, you see the Teaching Support menu in the top-right corner of the preview window.
  2. Click the arrow on the Teaching Support menu to view the Overview (available only for lesson modules), Notes, and Links provided for the asset.
  3. Click the Edit link in the Overview or Notes page.

    In the edit frame at the top of the page you can edit or remove all of the available teaching support information. If you are previewing a lesson module you can switch between the Overview and Notes pages to edit both. You can also drag the divider at the bottom of the edit frame to expand the frame.

  4. Make the changes you want. For details, see the steps listed above for creating the asset.
  5. Click Save and Return to return to the asset preview. Alternately, you can click Save to save your changes and continue editing the asset.
