The glossary is an alphabetical list of words and their meanings. When enabled, the glossary helps users enhance their vocabulary skills and pronunciation.

By default, the Glossary link is available from the resource toolbar for both instructors and students.

By default, when you open the glossary, the first column displays an alphabetical list of words in the language selected for the course (German, French, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish). The second column displays the English equivalent, and the last column displays the audio icon , which you can click to hear the pronunciation of the word in the selected language.

Click the English to... option to reverse the glossary to display an alphabetical list of English words and their equivalent in the language for the course. In this case, the first column displays the word in English, the second columns displays the course language equivalent in Chinese Pinyin, German, French, Italian, Latin, Portuguese, or Spanish, and the last column displays the audio icon , which you can click to hear the word's pronunciation in English.

  • To display words starting with a specific letter, click the corresponding letter on Select a Letter.
  • To search for a word, start typing the word in the Search box. The glossary list dynamically scrolls the alphabetical list of words to locate the word you entered, if it appears in the glossary.

You can use the character palette to insert special characters into the Search box. When you finish, click X in the top-right corner to close the palette. For more information on entering characters from languages other than English, see Use the character palette.
