Use the Change Source menu to copy materials

Updated 19 Feb 2024

You can use the Change Source menu on the Course Materials > Add from Library page to access and copy resources that are available to you. These resources can include materials from other courses in which you are enrolled as well as materials from a Pearson-provided shared library.

The Change Source menu can include any of the following options:

  • Home page: Displays other courses in which you are enrolled and from which you can copy course materials. See Add materials from another course.
  • Course Materials Library: Displays the course materials available in the current course. Click the course title to return to the current Course Materials Library.
  • Supplemental Content: Displays any shared libraries that are available for your course.

If you do not see Change Source, you do not have permission to copy materials between courses. (MyLab Languages only)

What can you copy?

You can copy assets from other courses in which you are enrolled to your current course. This option can be useful if you created or modified material in one course you teach and want to use it in another course.

Your ability to access and copy course materials is set on a course-by-course basis, and may be locked by Pearson. For details on how to configure copy permissions, see Set Copy Content preferences.

Teaching assistants cannot change course material copy permissions. (MyLab Languages only)

What happens when you copy an activity?

When you copy an activity from another course, the activity's preferences are also copied, with the following exceptions:

  • If the original activity due date has passed, the due date is not copied. If the original activity due date is after the date when you copy the activity, its due date carries over.
  • If you scheduled a copied activity for a particular student or group in the original course, scheduling options do not carry over.
  • If you restrict access to the activity to certain locations in the original course, access restrictions do not carry over.
  • The activity's preferences are maintained when you copy the activity. If the other course's preferences differ from the global activity preferences set in your current course, you must manually update the preferences for the copied activity.
