Updated 19 Feb 2024
Use Mail to view or send correspondence
to your students. Messages are available only in
the course mail tool; they are not external email messages.
:
- Mail is available only if it is enabled on the Preferences > Course Tools page. For information about making mail available to you and your students, see Enable mail.
- The order of appearance of the Mail page on the toolbar and whether it opens by default when you click Communicate is determined by options you select under Instructor Tools and Student
Tools on the Preferences > Course Tools page.
You can open course mail by:
- Clicking Communicate > Mail.
- Selecting Send
Message from the context menu of an asset.
Read, reply to, or forward messages you receive
- Click Communicate > Mail.
Your Inbox appears.

indicates the number of unread messages. Unread messages appear in bold
font.
- To open a message, click the sender name,
subject, date received, or course from which the message was sent.
- After reviewing the message:
- To
return to your Inbox, click Back.
- To
go to the next or previous message, click the up or down arrow
.
If you are viewing the first or last message and click the up (or down)
arrow, you automatically return to the Inbox
list. - To
have the message continue to appear in bold font in your Inbox,
select Mark as Unread. You can
also select Mark as Read for an
unread message. The message no longer appears in bold font and your unread
message count is updated to exclude messages that you marked as read.

delete the message, click Delete,
and click OK to confirm.

reply to the sender only, click Reply
and compose your response.
