Use the drawing tool palette

The drawing tool palette contains the tools to draw figures and annotate them. This palette is on the left of the drawing area in the Figure Editor.
- Select the icon for the tool you want to use - for example, a straight line or rectangle.
- Move your mouse into the drawing area and click to anchor the starting point.
When you select a tool in the drawing tool palette, you see hints on using the tool underneath the drawing area.
Undo and redo - The left button undoes your previous action in the drawing area; the right button redoes an action that you previously undid. You have multiple levels of undo and redo. | |

Select tool - Lets you select objects and text. To select multiple objects, click this icon and drag the pointer across the objects you want to select or hold down the SHIFT key and select multiple objects. |

Rotate tool - Lets you rotate an object around a pivot point. To rotate one or more objects:

Line tool - Lets you draw a line or an arrow. When the line is selected, you can specify arrow heads using the Arrows section of the Figure Objects tab. |

Arc tool - Lets you draw an arc. When the arc is selected, you can adjust the curve. |

Ellipse tool - Lets you draw an open ellipse or circle. When the ellipse or circle is selected, you can adjust the size and shape. |

Filled Ellipse tool - Lets you draw a filled ellipse or circle. When the ellipse or circle is selected, you can adjust the size and shape and change the color of the fill. |

Rectangle tool - Lets you draw an open rectangle or square. When the rectangle or square is selected, you can adjust the size and shape. |

Filled Rectangle tool - Lets you draw a filled rectangle or square. When the rectangle or square is selected, you can adjust the size and shape and change the color of the fill. |

Polygon tool - Lets you draw an open polygon. To create a polygon, click at the end of each line in the polygon. At the end of the last line, double-click or press Enter to end the drawing. When the polygon is selected, you can edit the vertices. |

Filled Polygon tool - Lets you draw a filled polygon. To create a polygon, click at the end of each line in the polygon. At the end of the last line, double-click or press Enter to end the drawing. When the polygon is selected, you can edit the vertices or change the fill color. |

Polyline tool - Lets you draw a polyline. To create a polyline, click at the end of each line in the polyline. At the end of the last line, double-click or press Enter to end the drawing. When the polyline is selected, you can adjust the size, line style, or color. |
Edit Vertices tool - Lets you change the vertices of polygons and polylines. To edit polygons and polylines:

Text tool - Lets you enter text. After selecting this icon, position your cursor where you want to enter text and begin typing. When the text is selected, you can choose the text font, style, and size using the Font Info section of the Figure Objects tab. You can include predefined algorithmic values in text by typing a tilde (~) followed by the value name; for example, ~V1. |
Formula tool - Lets you enter mathematical formulas. After selecting this icon, position your cursor where you want to enter the formula. The Equation Editor shows where you can create your formula. |

Fill tool - Lets you specify the foreground and background (fill) colors of objects. Click the top (foreground) box to set the colors of lines; click the bottom (background) box to set the fill color of ellipses, rectangles, and polygons. Click the foreground or background box to get a pop-up where you can select a color. |
When any drawing object is selected, you can set its properties on the Figure Objects tab in the Objects and Settings area.
