Icons and conventions

A number of icons and symbols are used throughout your course. Icons have tooltips to give you a brief explanation.

Icons might vary depending on your course.

Icon	Explanation
Assignment icons
	A homework assignment, as categorized in the gradebook.
	A quiz, as categorized in the gradebook.
	A test, as categorized in the gradebook.
	Any other type of assignment, as categorized in the gradebook.
	Study plan work as a prerequisite for a test or quiz.
	An adaptive diagnostic test to assess topic knowledge.
	This assignment has a prerequisite.
	A preassigned sample homework assignment.
or (sw)	Students need to demonstrate how they got the answer using the Show Work window.
	The question is an essay question that the instructor must manually grade.
	The media type is a video.
	The media type is an animation.
	The media type is a PowerPoint presentation.
	The media type is an eTextbook reading.
	The media type is an audio file.
	The media type is an interactive figure.
	The media type is a business simulation.
	The media type is a data file.
	The media type is an HTML document.
	The media type is a PDF file.
	The media type is an image.
	The media type is reading a website.
	The media type is an interactive lab.
	In accounting courses, a static question that matches a question in the textbook.

	A video is available as a learning aid.
	An animation is available as a learning aid
	The eTextbook is available as a learning aid.
	A guided solution is available as a learning aid.
	A sample problem is available as a learning aid.
	A calculator is available as a learning aid.
	An Excel spreadsheet accompanies the question.
	A glossary is available as a learning aid.
	Review information is available as a learning aid.
	Textbook Extras (additional material from your textbook) are available as a learning aid.
	An instructor tip is available for the question.
	More Help or Extra Help is available as a learning aid.
	Math Tools are available as a learning aid. Math Tools link to a variety of tools to help visualize a concept.
	Templates are available as a learning aid and offer Excel worksheets, MATLAB code, Word, or PowerPoint files tied to specific questions in the textbook.
	In accounting courses, a Demo Docs Example is available as a learning aid.
	Extra information on the question is available only in review mode.
	Send an email about the question to the instructor.
Score icons
gray text	The assignment score is not included in gradebook averages.
*	The score has been changed or was submitted by the instructor.
!	The assignment has essay questions that need to be graded by an instructor.
	The question was answered correctly.
	The question was answered incorrectly.
	Part of the question was answered correctly, and partial credit was given for the question.
	The question has been started but not yet scored.
	The question is incorrect because it was not answered.
	The instructor has commented on the answer to a question.
(sw)	You have to show your work.
(e)	An essay question.
	The assignment offers or earned a Credly badge.
Calendar icons
	The instructor has posted an announcement.
	One or more assignments are available.
	One or more assignments are due.
Study Plan icons
	A section or objective that was mastered by taking a test, quiz, practice test, or Quiz Me.
	A section or objective recommended for practice.
	A section or objective that is recommended for practice next in courses using the continuously adaptive Study Plan.
	The student has answered the practice questions correctly and is ready to take a test to prove mastery.
	Media (such as a video or PowerPoint) that students can view to review the material.
Course information for instructors
	A member course managed by a coordinator course.
	An instructor-only resource or menu item.
Assignment information for instructors
	An instructor-created custom question.
(tb)	A question from the test bank.
	An essay question or a multipart question that includes an essay.
	A graphing question.
	An economics graphing question.
	A question is accessible by screenreaders such as JAWS.
	A question that recommended Skill Builder Adaptive Practice for students working on homework.
	An economics question that contains the latest real-time data downloaded from FRED (the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis).
	A Mini Sim question in business courses.
	An autograded Excel project that can be included in homework assignments in some business courses.

	A GeoGebra question.
